Recently, yours truly was recognized by the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA) with an Outstanding Producer Award for outstanding performance in 2020. I’m sure you’re thinking: cool, so what does that mean to me? So glad you asked! “Business Brokers support the health of small businesses and communities worldwide, and these award recipients are among our industry’s best,” stated IBBA Executive Director, Kylene Golubski. “2020 presented many unique challenges, yet these individuals rose to the occasion and delivered impressive results.” So now that you know I’m actually worth my salt, maybe you’re considering working with me. Below, I’m doing something I rarely do and opening up a bit more about myself and my business so you can get to know me. Still want more? Click here to book a FREE consultation with me! How It Started
Since 2013, I’ve been coaching small business owners and entrepreneurs to increase productivity, profitability, and peace. Candidly, I never realized that people bought and sold small businesses until I met Clint Fiore and his team at Texas Business Buyers in 2018. There were many synergies between the coaching work I was doing and business brokerage. Simply put, it made a lot of sense to bring transaction services to the clients I was already serving. As a fourth generation entrepreneur, I have a heart for small business owners. I know from personal experience the blood, sweat, and tears that go into making a small business successful and I’m passionate that these business owners have an exit plan for their next great adventure. How It’s Going. Just like any other professional, I have good days and I have bad. The most rewarding part of my job is knowing that I’ve made a difference in the lives of the business owners I work with -- knowing that I’ve made a remarkable impact on their life trajectory. The transaction work we do is usually complex and, surprising to some, emotionally deep. (Think about it - your business is more of your baby than a sum of numbers, right?) It takes a lot of patience and perseverance to help business owners bring their small business dreams to fruition. The toughest part is dealing with all the personalities and advisors that make up a small business owner’s “deal team”. We usually see multiple sellers, multiple buyers, CPAs, attorneys, bankers, and a variety of other stakeholders advising a transaction. Each of these advisors usually has a different motivation and definition of success. If any one of these players work against the team instead of with the team, it threatens the dynamic. Despite all the not so glamorous parts of my job, I can honestly say that each and every deal I’ve closed is a favorite for different reasons and each deal has its very own character and lessons learned. Think about it like a classroom of students -- each one has something new to teach you and requires a completely unique approach. Moving Forward. Going forward, I believe business brokerage consultancy will be even more important AND complicated. Many businesses closed their doors in 2020 and many of the ones that didn’t experienced unprecedented growth. Combine that with professionals looking to leave Corporate America en masse plus great deals on SBA loans, and you have the perfect storm. There’s never been a better time to own your own small business and I’m excited to see what happens during recovery. After a particularly turbulent year personally, my ultimate goal (and how I define success) is by being at complete peace. When I am in alignment with my values, passions, and strengths, I am confident I am making a valuable contribution to the world and the amazing business owners I get the opportunity to serve. Of course, productivity and profitability are also best served alongside peace. Remember that it’s never too early to start exit planning and that your books and bookkeeping practices are WAY more important than you realize.
